BASIC CONCEPT OF MONOTHEISM

MONOTHEISMIn easy words, monotheism is known as ‘Tawheed’. It is the first and fundamental principle in the religion of Islam. The Islamic ideology of life is realized by bringing this concept into the veins and roots of the human being and instilling it in his heart and soul. The concept of monotheism is based on the negation of all false gods and the affirmation of one God. The establishment, survival, and evolution of the Nation of Islam depend on the belief of Tawheed.

This monotheism is the source of strength and power of the Muslim Ummah and the soul of Islamic society. It was Tawheed that made the Nation of Islam an invincible force in wars. In this era of life, it is necessary that the true concept of monotheism in the heart of the Islamic nation, which has become empty of cracks, should be highlighted anew in the light of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

In this way, the man of faith can then be armed with the double-edged blade of Laa-ilaha-illalah and fight against every false colonialist force. The matter of monotheism is a matter of great importance, and its arguments are discussed here. Allah Almighty says:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ ٥٦

TRANSLATION: I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me.[ adh-dhariyat: 56]

This is a matter for which Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala created the jinn and humans. The goal of creating jinn and human beings is the highest and the goal of true monotheism, which requires that only Allah be worshiped and polytheism be avoided.

The second importance of monotheism is Allah Subhanahu Watalla sent the messengers for this purpose. Allah Almighty says:

TRANSLATION: We surely sent a messenger to every community, saying, “Worship Allah and shun false gods.”[An- Nahl: 36]

The Prophets invited their Ummahs towards monotheism and Quran says:

يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٢٣

TRANSLATION: O my people! Worship Allah ˹alone˺. You have no god other than Him. Will you not then fear ˹Him˺?” [al-muminun: 23]

THE POWER OF MONOTHEISM:

This matter which we are discussing is a matter, for which heads have been cut off, and blood has been shed for it, and lives have been sacrificed for it, and everything dear and dear has been spent for it. That is why Allah Almighty sent the messengers and revealed the books.

This is why the day of judgment will come. All this is for the sake of (La ilaha illa Allah), so that the Oneness of Allah may be accepted and no one should be associated with Him, and so that Allah should be obeyed and disobedience to Him avoided, and so that Allah should be thanked and not ungrateful.

Therefore, if the quality of the matter is such, then there is no doubt that it will be a very great matter, for which it is necessary to spend lives, time, money, and wealth to achieve its success, and its invitation, preaching, and defense are also very important. It is, and it is also very important to take care of everything by which this great religion can gain support and success:

وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُونُوٓا۟ أَمْثَـٰلَكُم ٣٨

TRANSLATION: “If you ˹still˺ turn away, He will replace you with another person. And they will not be like you.”

Therefore, we should understand our responsibility and understand the importance of monotheism. And, we should explain to others the importance of monotheism, so that they can avoid shirking. Otherwise, Allah will replace us with people who are better than us, and who will do the work of religion better than us. This is the matter which is the right of Allah over His servants. The prophet (peace be upon Him) says:

  • Narrated Mu`adh bin Jabal: While I was riding behind the Prophet (ﷺ) and between me and him and between me and him there was only the back of the saddle, he said, “0 Mu`adh!” I replied, “Labbaik, 0 Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), and Sa`daik!” he said, “Do you know what is Allah’s right upon his slave?” I said, “Allah and His Apostle know best,” He said, “Allah’s right upon his slaves is that they should worship Him alone and not worship anything else besides Him.” Then he proceeded for a while and then said, “O Mu`adh bin Jabal!” I replied, “Labbaik, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ):, Sa`daik!’ He said, “Do you know what is the right of the slaves upon Allah if they do that?” I replied, “Allah and His Apostle know best.” He said, “The right of the slaves upon Allah is that He will not punish them (if they do that). [Sahih al-Bukhari: 5967]

MONOTHEISM BRINGS YOU FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Anyone who considers the state of this Ummah today (especially in the matter of Tawheed) will see that things are very strange, there is great confusion in concepts and understandings. There is an extreme lack of familiarity with the reality of Tawheed and an extreme weakness in trust.

And among the darkness in which the Ummah has fallen: Many Muslims do not know the reality of monotheism. Because some scholars attribute themselves to this Ummah, but they tell people that Tawheed is not the Tawheed that Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, brought. Rather, they have their self-made monotheism.

CONCLUSION:

We are extremely grateful to Allah Almighty, who has allowed us to provide solutions to the doubts and confusion created by the matter of monotheism belief.  Without the belief in monotheism, the person cannot deserve the mercy of Allah and the true love and intercession of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Tawheed is the root and origin of all beliefs and righteous deeds are the branches of religion.
